Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment in Adelaide

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma and is a treatment whereby your own blood collected into a vacutube and put into a centrifuge for a few minutes, and then aspirated back into a syringe and injected into the injured or degenerative/osteoarthritic portion of the body.

Conditions that can be treated include osteoarthritis of joints, partial tendon tears in shoulders and other joints, and bursitis.

PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma is your own blood aspirated into a test tube, and then put into a centrifuge. 10 Minutes later the tube is taken from the centrifuge, the top section containing PRP aspirated into a syringe and then injected in a s sterile manner into the particular degenerative joint affected. Platelets disintegrate releasing growth factors which promote healing.

Potential risks are infection introduced into the joint. The preparation of the PRP and the injection are performed in a totally sterile manner. However there is always a slight chance of infection, as can occur with any injection or medical procedure involving disruption of the skin.
